Add, generate or scan a SKU and barcode

Give products identifiers that staff can search and scan.

Step by step

  1. Open a product and choose Edit.
  2. In Identifiers, type a SKU or choose Generate SKU.
  3. Type a barcode, choose Generate barcode, or use Scan barcode to scan it with the camera.
  4. Save the product. Test the barcode in the register before relying on it at checkout.

Good to know

The SKU prefix is configured in Settings → Products & codes. A SKU and a barcode are different identifiers.

If you get stuck

Allow camera access if scanning is blocked, or enter the barcode manually. If a code matches more than one item, select the intended item in the match dialog.
